About Dental Treatment in Hungary
Why choose Hungary for dental work?
Hungary is a well-established destination for dental treatment, particularly for patients from the UK and Western Europe. The country has a long tradition of dental education and a high concentration of clinics experienced in complex procedures such as dental implants and full-mouth rehabilitation.
Hungary operates under EU healthcare regulations, and many clinics invest in modern technology and ongoing professional training. For patients seeking high clinical standards combined with experienced care teams, Hungary — and Budapest in particular — is a recognised centre for advanced dentistry.
What is the quality of dental care like in Hungary?
The quality of dental care in Hungary is regulated under Hungarian healthcare regulations that are aligned with European Union standards. Dental clinics are required to meet defined requirements for hygiene, sterilisation, patient safety, and professional practice, and many also choose to obtain additional international certifications.
Dentists use modern technologies and evidence-based techniques, follow strict sterilisation protocols in line with regulatory requirements, and participate in ongoing professional development. This is particularly important for advanced treatments such as implant dentistry and full-mouth rehabilitation, where careful planning and up-to-date clinical expertise are essential.
Is Hungary well established for treating international patients?
Hungary has a long history of treating international dental patients, particularly from the UK and Western Europe. Many clinics are experienced in complex cases and structured treatment planning for patients travelling from abroad.
Safety, Quality & Standards
What dental implant brands are used by your partners in Hungary?
Our dental partners in Hungary work with well-established implant systems from internationally recognised manufacturers. These may include brands such as Nobel Biocare, Straumann, MIS, and other premium systems commonly used across Europe.
The specific implant brand recommended depends on individual clinical needs and the dentist’s professional assessment. This ensures that treatment decisions are based on suitability and long-term outcomes rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
Is travel insurance required?
Yes, travel insurance is recommended to cover possible medical emergencies and trip cancellations during your treatment travel. We advise researching and obtaining suitable insurance that specifically covers dental procedures abroad.
How are clinics and dental partners selected?
We work with a small number of experienced, owner-led dental clinics in Hungary that regularly treat international patients. These clinics are selected not only for their clinical expertise, but because their approach to care, communication, and patient experience aligns closely with our values.
We visit our dental partners in person and maintain regular contact through ongoing meetings. This allows us to understand how each clinic operates, how patients are supported, and how treatment is planned and delivered in practice. All of our partners are accustomed to working with overseas patients, communicate clearly in English (and often other languages), and are committed to providing a high standard of care with responsive communication and attentive service.
Our role is not to promote a single clinic, but to help identify suitable dental partners based on individual needs, treatment requirements, and practical considerations.
Travel & practical arrangements
How are language barriers handled?
Our dental partners regularly treat international patients and communicate clearly in English. Consultations, treatment plans, and written quotations are provided in English, with structured processes in place to ensure patients understand each stage of care.
Clinics have dedicated patient coordinators, and we remain involved throughout the process to support communication between all parties. Some patients prefer to liaise directly with clinic coordinators, while others work more closely with us — in every case, we stay in contact to ensure clarity, continuity, and that nothing is lost in translation.
What are the travel logistics like?
Budapest is well connected to the UK and other European cities by direct flights. Accommodation options range from centrally located hotels to serviced apartments, depending on your preferences and length of stay.
As part of our Dental Travel Assistance service, we help you plan travel around recommended treatment stages, explain local transport options, and share practical guidance to make your stay as straightforward as possible.
How many trips are usually required for dental treatment?
The number of trips depends on the type and complexity of treatment. Some procedures can be completed in a single visit, while others — such as implant-supported or full-mouth rehabilitation — are typically delivered in stages over several months.
We help you understand the likely timeline early on, so you can make informed decisions before arranging travel or committing to treatment.
Can I have a dental assessment in the UK before travelling?
Clinical dental assessments are carried out in Hungary by the treating dental team. Our dental partners do not offer in-person assessments in the UK, and they do not meet patients outside the clinic environment.
This approach ensures that assessments are performed using appropriate clinical facilities, imaging, and diagnostic tools, and by the dentist responsible for planning and delivering the treatment.
To support patients before travelling, we can help arrange a video consultation with the clinic. This allows you to see the facilities, meet the patient coordinator, and speak directly with the dentist involved in your care. These conversations are intended to help patients understand the treatment approach, likely timelines, and next steps before making any travel decisions.
Costs, payments & insurance
How do costs in Hungary compare to other countries?
Dental treatment costs in Hungary are generally lower than in countries such as the UK due to differences in operating expenses rather than reduced clinical standards. However, exact costs vary depending on the type of treatment, materials used, and individual clinical requirements.
Any estimates provided before travel are indicative only. Final treatment plans and costs are always confirmed following in-person clinical assessment by the dental provider.
What are the payment terms and methods?
Payment terms are set by the individual dental clinic and will be explained as part of your treatment plan. Clinics typically accept major credit and debit cards, bank transfers, and cash. Payments are usually made in Hungarian Forint (HUF), even if estimates are provided in other currencies for reference.
We help ensure payment expectations are clear before treatment begins, but financial arrangements are always handled directly with the clinic.
Are treatment quotes fixed before travel?
Initial estimates are usually based on the dental records and imaging available at the time. Because final treatment decisions depend on clinical findings, definitive treatment plans and costs are confirmed only after in-person examination.
This approach helps ensure recommendations are clinically appropriate and avoids unnecessary or unsuitable treatment.
Working with Medigateway Hungary
What services do you provide?
We support patients by guiding them through the process of exploring dental treatment in Hungary. Our role includes helping you understand treatment options, coordinating communication with suitable dental partners, and assisting with planning around travel and timing.
Rather than offering dental treatment ourselves, we focus on making sure decisions are informed, personalised, and supported at every stage.
Do you offer consultations?
Yes. We offer a brief, complimentary call to discuss your situation, answer initial questions, and explain how the process works. There is no obligation to proceed.
If you decide to explore treatment further, dental partners will always carry out their own clinical assessment and diagnostics before confirming any treatment plan.
Do you charge a fee for your services?
Yes. Medigateway Hungary charges a facilitation fee, which is calculated as a percentage of the final treatment cost agreed directly with the dental provider.
We use this model deliberately so that we are not dependent on fees from clinics. This allows us to remain independent, recommend different dental partners where appropriate, and focus on supporting our clients’ interests first and foremost.
Any fees are explained transparently once we understand your situation and the level of support required. There is no obligation to proceed following an initial conversation.
How do I get started?
You can get started by getting in touch to share a brief overview of your situation. We’ll explain the next steps, what information may be helpful, and how we can support you in exploring your options.
There’s no pressure to decide anything until you feel comfortable and informed.
Still have questions?
