Getting Around Budapest During Dental Treatment
If you are travelling to Budapest for dental treatment, understanding how to move around the city can make your stay much easier. Fortunately, Budapest has a reliable and easy-to-use public transport network, with metro lines, trams and buses covering most areas of the city.
Many dental clinics treating international patients are located in central districts, making it straightforward to travel between your accommodation and appointments using public transport or taxis.
This guide explains the practical options available — from travelling into the city from the airport to navigating between appointments and accommodation during your stay.

Where Most Dental Clinics Are Located in Budapest
Many clinics treating international patients are located in central districts on the Pest side of the city. These areas are well connected by metro, tram and bus lines, making it straightforward to travel between accommodation and appointments.
Choosing accommodation close to a metro or tram line often makes the visit significantly easier, particularly if you have multiple appointments during your stay.
The BudapestGO app (tickets + live directions)
Budapest’s official transport app — BudapestGO — lets you plan routes in real time and buy/validate tickets (including the airport 100E ticket). It’s the one app you should install.
Quick setup
- Download BudapestGO (iOS/Android).
- (Optional) Create an account and add a bank card.
- Buy your ticket or pass, then validate in-app (scan the QR code at the stop/vehicle) when prompted.
Handy Official Maps
All are available on the webiste of Centre for Budapest Transport (BKK) under Maps. Here are some of the handy maps we have identified:
Tickets & passes: what’s worth it?
Single or time-based tickets (60–90 min) for ad-hoc trips.
24-hour & 72-hour travelcards for unlimited rides within the city (great for 2–3 busy sightseeing days). Note: some pass prices changed on June 1, 2025 — check current price in app.
Weekly (168-hour) pass if you’ll be in town a full week.
Budapest Card (tourist city card) also covers transport, but compare cost vs how many attractions you’ll use.
⚠️ Important: The airport 100E is not included in regular passes — it needs a special Airport shuttle bus single ticket (price updated 1 Oct 2025; check exact current fare in BudapestGO).
Where to Buy
Tickets and passes can be purchased in multiple convenient ways:
- In the BudapestGO app (fastest option with digital validation).
- From purple BKK ticket terminals located across Budapest — at metro stations, major tram/bus hubs, and both terminals of Budapest Airport. Terminals accept cash and cards, display multiple languages, and print tickets immediately.
- The BKK webiste provides more details on purchasing options, so make sure you check their page.
Zero-stress sightseeing on regular public transport
Classic scenic ride: Tram 2 (Pest embankment)
Glides along the Danube with views of Parliament, the Chain Bridge, and Buda Castle. National Geographic has highlighted it among the world’s top scenic tram rides. Sit on the river side for the best views.
Other useful lines
- Metro M1 (Millennium Underground) — the yellow, historic line (1896) along Andrássy Avenue to Heroes’ Square and City Park/Széchenyi Baths.
- Bus 16 / 16A / 116 — from Deák Ferenc tér to the Castle District (good value alternative to the funicular).
- Funicular (Budavári Sikló) — iconic, but not covered by BKK tickets/passes; lower station at Clark Ádám tér.
- Trams 4/6 — frequent crosstown link on the Grand Boulevard for quick hops.
Nearest public transport to popular sights

Taxis in Budapest (what’s official & which apps to use)
Official taxis are yellow with a roof TAXI sign, company logo and fare card on the doors. Budapest has regulated pricing (base fare + per-km + per-minute), so licensed taxis should use the meter and charge the same regulated components. Paying by card is standard.
Apps to book
- Bolt (widely used)
- Főtaxi (local incumbent)
- Uber (Uber Taxi) — returned in 2024 via partnership with local fleets; bookable in the Uber app. If you prefer, keep using Főtaxi/Bolt — all three are fine for app-booked rides.
More information of standard fares and licensed taxi companies on the BKK webiste.
Tips: Avoid unmarked cars and cash-only “flat fares”. Use ranks at major hubs or book via apps/hotels.
Handy hub: Deák Ferenc tér
Most metro lines intersect once — Deák Ferenc tér — making it the best “anchor” point for transfers and orientation.
